Give every job a next person

A rotation is easier to explain when everyone can see the next turn. This example uses three helpers, five chores and four weekly columns.

Start with a small household

Enter Alex, Sam and Mia in that order, one name per line. Add Wash dishes, Tidy living room, Walk the dog, Water plants and Fold laundry, one chore per line, with everyone ticked. Choose Weekly ยท 4 weeks, a start date of 19 October 2026, and Rotate turns.

The next column moves each job one position along the member list. After three columns, all three people have had that job once. The fourth column begins the cycle again.

Equal turns are not equal effort

Five jobs divided between three helpers cannot give everyone the same number of jobs in every column, and jobs take different amounts of time. Give each chore effort points from 1 to 5 in the maker: the workload panel then adds up each person's jobs and points across the chart. With points of 2, 2, 3, 1 and 2 in this example, rotation gives Alex 13, Sam 14 and Mia 13 points over four weeks.

If the gap is bigger in your home, switch to Balance effort: it hands out the biggest jobs first, each to whoever has the fewest points so far, and avoids giving anyone the same job two columns running.

When someone cannot do a job

Untick a person under a chore, for example a six-year-old under Walk the dog. Rotation then shares that chore between the people still ticked and leaves the other chores as they were. Choose Fixed owners for jobs that need the same person each time. Shuffle draws a random assignment that keeps the number of jobs even in each column. Keep adults responsible for supervising tasks that need it.

Put the chart on paper

  1. Choose A4 or US Letter in the maker.
  2. Pick Chore grid for the fridge or List per person so each child sees only their own jobs.
  3. Use Print / Save PDF and select landscape orientation with the matching paper size at 100% scale.

Printable boxes are for pencil marks or stickers. The maker saves your list in this browser, but it does not track completed chores online or send reminders. The CSV above is a reference example; the maker's own Download CSV uses the same columns plus a Points column.
