Points = effort (1 quick – 5 big). Untick anyone who should not get that chore, such as a young child.

    How jobs are assigned

    Rotate turns

Each new column moves every job one place along the list of people. With three people, everyone has had each job after three columns. People unticked for a chore are skipped for that chore only.

    Balance effort

Uses the points. Jobs are handed out biggest first, each to the person with the fewest points so far, and nobody gets the same job twice in a row when someone else can take it. Best when jobs take very different amounts of time.

    Fixed owners

Pick one person for each chore. Good for jobs that need the same hands every time, like feeding a pet that only trusts one child.

    Shuffle

A random assignment each column that still spreads the number of jobs evenly. Press Shuffle again for a new draw; the draw is saved with your chart.

Equal turns are not equal work

Five chores between three people can never give everyone the same number of jobs in every week. Some jobs also take ten minutes and some take an hour. The workload panel adds up the points so the difference is visible before the chart goes on the fridge; agree as a family whether it is fair.

    Making it stick

    • Pick points together; children accept a chart they helped price.
    • Use emoji at the start of a chore for children who cannot read yet.
    • Use “List per person” so each child sees only their own jobs.
    • Print a fresh chart each month rather than stretching one too far.

    Frequently asked questions

    What does rotate fairly mean?

Each new column moves every job one place along the family list, so over a full cycle everyone takes a turn at each job. Children who cannot do a job yet are skipped for that job only.

What is the difference between rotating and balancing effort?

Rotation gives equal turns, but five jobs shared by three people cannot give equal work in every column. Balance effort uses the points you give each chore and hands the next job to whoever has the fewest points so far, while avoiding giving the same person the same job twice in a row.

Can I stop a young child getting a job they cannot do?

Yes. In the chores table, untick a person under a chore. That chore is then shared only between the people still ticked.

Does my family information leave this device?

No. The chart is made in your browser and saved in this browser's local storage. Names and chores are not uploaded.

Can I share the chart with another parent?

Yes. Copy share link puts the whole chart, names included, into the link itself after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the server. Opening the link on another phone or computer shows the same chart and saves it in that browser.

What if my chart is cut off when printing?

Choose landscape and 100% scale in the print dialog. Long charts with many columns or chores may continue on a second page.
